The show of the eight returns to the Cathedral of Mallorca
The eight-year light phenomenon occurs twice a year on two symbolic dates: February 2, 2 of the 2, Candelaria festival and November 11, 11 of 11, San Martín.
These two days, the sunlight crosses the largest rosette of the Cathedral and its reflection is projected on the opposite wall, just under the opposite rose window, the one on the main facade. Thus, during a short period of time, one is reflected below one another, forming an eight.
Next Friday, February 2, the Cathedral of Mallorca opens its doors at 7:30 a.m. in the morning to enjoy this show that arrives at its climax around 9:00 a.m. In order that all the people who want to enjoy this show, the Cathedral of Mallorca will also open at 8:00 AM on Thursday and Friday, days in which the phenomenon is also seen.
On Friday, given the phenomenon of the eight, at 9:30 a.m., Mass is celebrated for the festival of the presentation of the Lord. This mass begins with a blessing in the chapel of the Blessed Sacrament and includes the candlestick procession inside the Cathedral to the Greater altar, where the mass is celebrated.
