The summer solstice of the Cathedral
(The translation of this text has been generated by a machine. We apologize for the inconvenience.)
On Thursday, June 21, the day of the summer solstice, the Balearic Mathematics Society, together with the Cathedral Chapter, will organize an interesting activity divided into two parts.
In the first place, the inverse effect of the winter solstice kaleidoscope will be contemplated live, that is, as the projection of the rosette of the main portal is aligned on the rosette of the altar, known as the Oculus Major. This phenomenon will be explained with the help of a model of the Seu and the solar movement, gift of the Museu de Matemàtiques de Catalunya.
Secondly, the Balearic Mathematical Society will present a composition of 49 photographs taken during a whole year of the sun in the Cathedral. Each week they have made the same photograph at the same time to observe the apparent movement of the sun. This composition will show us, therefore, the path of the sun at a certain time throughout the year, surprising for its beauty. This image is, in fact, the symbol of the harmonic functioning of the solar system.
The act will begin at 20'15h and access will be made through the Almoina Portal. Free entry for all interested.
