Solemn corpus christi celebration in the cathedral

The traditional Corpus Christi procession took to the streets yesterday in Palma’s historic centre led by Bishop Monsignor Sebastià Taltavull.

Corpus Christi is a celebration that came about to exalt the sacrament of the Eucharist and every year it fills Palma’s streets with light and colour.

At around 5.15pm on Sunday the Vespers chants and the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament began. This was followed by the religious celebration and then, after the mass, the procession took to the streets of Palma’s old quarter to the toll of the n’Aloy bell.

The Cavallets, the Cossiers and Tamborers de la Sala opened the procession, followed by the Lledània processional cross, one of the most emblematic elements, which was decorated with wax flowers. Then came the religious brotherhoods and the Escolania dels Vermells choir, the monstrance, the canons, the bishop and the municipal band. The worshippers and tourists who congregated around the Cathedral of Mallorca to experience this traditional celebration were delighted by all the elements of the Corpus Christi procession.
